Camila Cabello is having an amazing week after her album release became an instant hit. "Camila" is her first solo album after her exit from
Fifth Harmony and the "Havana" hitmaker was recently asked about that moment the girls made it a point at the MTV VMAs to show that there were only four in the group. “It definitely hurt my feelings,” she told The New York Times. “I wasn’t expecting it, I wasn’t prepared for it — especially because at that point I’d moved on from it. I was just like, ‘What? Why?’” She also added: “I have to make space for the good stuff to happen in my life,” she said. “I don’t like holding onto the past, especially when it’s stuff that, in my opinion, is just petty.”
Following the moment going viral the girls appeared on "Good Morning America" where they talked about their performance. "We get asked all the time if we're getting a fifth member," Ally Brooke said. "We wanted to show the world in an artistic way that the four of us are Fifth Harmony and we're stronger and better than we've ever been."
Camila's surprise exit was made official on December 19 in a statement shared from their official Twitter account. “After 4 and a half years of being together, we have been informed via her representative that Camila has decided to leave Fifth Harmony. We wish her well.”
The singer discovered on the defunct reality show "The X-Factor USA" also talked about the exit from the group. "I had been writing songs since I was 16, and at first I wanted to write for other people," she told NPR. "[But] I had these songs that were so personal ... and I couldn't imagine me giving it to somebody and somebody else singing them because it was too close to me. I went a long time writing songs thinking that, 'Nobody will ever hear this for another 10 years because I'll still be in the group.' ... I made the decision to go out on my own and start expressing myself and my vision, because that's what made me come alive."
When the initial statement from Fifth Harmony hit social media Cabello was quick to react and release her own statement where she said: “The girls were aware of my feelings through the long, much needed conversations about the future that we had during tour. Saying that they were just informed through my representatives that I was ‘leaving the group’ is simply not true. Just like the other girls said in their statement about their plans, I had also planned to continue with my own solo endeavors in the new year, but I did not intend to end things with Fifth Harmony this way. As sad as it is to see this chapter ending this way, I will continue to root them all on as individuals and as a group. I wish nothing but the best for them.”
