Before the Toyota Prius became the iPhone of hybrid cars in 2001, Honda’s Insight hybrid was technically the first production hybrid vehicle announced for the U.S. market. Introduced in late 1999, the 2000 Honda Insight was a memorable hatchback with quirky and unique styling. However, Honda failed to recapture the magic in the nameplate's second generation design, and since it struggled on the sales front, the Insight was sent out to pasture a few years back.
Now, Honda gives the Insight another go for the 2019 model year, teasing a new upscale, 5-passenger sedan version ahead of its official debut at next month’s 2018 Detroit Auto Show.

Said to utilize the "latest generation" of Honda's two-motor hybrid system, the 2019 Insight will be slated above the Civic compact sedan in Honda’s lineup. The automaker remains mum on the specifics, but so far, we do know the new Insight will be built at the company’s Greensburg, Indiana manufacturing plant.
More details will be announced closer to the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, which begins Jan. 14.
