Utah authorities unleashed a barrage of bullets, with officers firing off 75 shots at an armed suspect fleeing from police in a pickup truck.

The Utah County Sheriff’s office recently released dash cam footage that sees the intense exchange of gunfire between police officers and Arturo Ray Gallemore-Jimenez on Dec. 20.

The 37-year-old suspect was struck three times in the confrontation but survived the rain of bullets, which also included 27 shots fired off by a SWAT officer with an automatic weapon, ABC News reported.

A bystander parked on the side of the freeway was also struck in the flurry of gunfire, which unfolded after Gallemore-Jimenez shot three times at deputies when they pulled him over on Interstate 15.

They’d been responding to reports of a man who discharged his firearm at the Utah truck stop. Witnesses said the suspect shot out the window of his truck because he’d locked his keys inside.

Authorities pulled Gallemore-Jimenez over not far from Spanish Fork and ordered him to show his hands. He initially complied with the request, but reached back into the truck for a revolver just seconds later.

Four deputies and an officer from the Spanish Fork police department opened fire on Gallemore-Jimenez before tailing him for 9 miles to the University Parkway exit, where a SWAT team had been waiting.

Gallemore-Jimenez’s truck can be seen swerving dramatically in the dash cam footage as it’s slammed with more gunfire before crashing into a fence and coming to a final stop.

Authorities defended their actions, explaining that they had been seeking to keep him on the freeway and away from highly populated areas.

“Had he gotten off the freeway into one of these areas it would have been a nightmare,” Sgt. Spencer Cannon told ABC.

While being treated at the hospital following the confrontation, Gallemore-Jimenez confessed to shooting a man a day earlier in Colorado.

Utah authorities opened fire on the suspect after he pulled a revolver out of his truck and shot at them three times.

“He was rambling, talking a thousand miles a minute. It seemed pretty clear he was under the influence of something,” Cannon said. “He told us he had shot someone in the back near Denver. We followed up on that.”

Colorado authorities earlier this month issued an arrest warrant for Gallemore-Jimenez, accusing him of shooting a 25-year-old man because he took a while to return a borrowed truck, the Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Gallemore-Jimenez also was charged with three counts of attempted aggravated murder, failure to respond to an officer, possession of firearms, possession of drugs, auto theft and driving with a suspended license in the officer-involved shoot-out.

He’s since been released from the hospital and is being held at the Salt Lake City Jail on $1 million cash bail.
