Mr Young said Ms Butler’s remarks about him “dressing as a woman and going to gay clubs” was about an article he wrote for a New York men’s mag in 1998 called ‘I was a lesbian for a night’.
He said: “It was a sophomoric stunt in which I was transformed into an ‘attractive’ woman by a Hollywood FX team and then tried to pick up a ‘lipstick lesbian’ in bunch of New York lesbian bars.
“Crashed and burned wherever I went, obviously. Didn’t get within 10 feet of a woman.”
Mr Young went on to say in another tweet: “I am not a ‘eugenicist’ and nor have I ever suggested ‘weeding out disabled people’. Another bare-faced, despicable lie.”
Regarding eugenics Mr Young said he went to the 2017 UCL Conference on Intelligence, “as a journalist” as he was “researching a talk”.
In a blog post for The Spectator he said: “I don’t accept that listening to someone putting forward an idea constitutes tacit acceptance or approval of that idea, however unpalatable.”
